Che's Misadventure
I wasn't sure if I was going to tell this story, but since my sweet rat Che survived I will.

We have three very sweet rats Fluffy, Blossom and Che (Chay). They are awesome pets and I love them. My boys constantly take them out of their cage to play with them. I think part of the reason they are so friendly is because they are constantly held. About a week and a half ago the boys got in a fight and Che got caught in the middle of it. One of them put Che on his brothers face, so he picked her up and threw her back. (I know, horrible). Che missed and ended up flying out of a second story window. The screen had been taken out this winter to watch for coyotes and never put it back in. Hayden came running down the stairs yelling that Che was out the window. I ran outside and found her laying on the grass. I carefully picked her up. She was kind of limp and her nose was bleeding. By now I was crying, convinced she wasn't going to make it. I sat down on the couch and held her. Her face swelled up and her eyes were even bleeding a bit. We stayed like that for a couple hours. She wasn't getting worse so I put her back in her cage. Over the next few days I was surprised to find her alive when I checked on her. She had a hard time eating her pellets so I fed her bread for a while. Eventually the swelling went down and she started eating her normal food again. Her spunky personality came back. She is completely back to normal. She's amazing...

Antelope Island
On Saturday the boys and I went to Antelope Island with Laura and Jace. I had never been there and I wasn't expecting much, but it was beautiful. It even smelled fine. We had a picnic and watched the seagulls for a while, then walked down to the water. The boys wrote their names in the soft sand and "skipped" rocks on the sand.

We put our hands in the water, and tasted the salt.
Tyson waded into the water.

We drove around a little and saw some bison a little ways off. We had a great time, I think we'll go back this summer and swim.

Easter Celebrations
My favorite part of Easter is the egg hunt at my Grandma Genny's. We run around the house finding our plastic eggs and calling out the colors of everybody elses. After all (or most) of the eggs are found we gather at the end of the extended table to talk and open our eggs. It's fun to be a kid again.
All the cousins wearing our wacky teeth.

I love the sign on this basket. The boys labeled them so the Easter Bunny wouldn't get mixed up. Underneath Tyson it says "I rock". Hayden woke up at 4:30 am and couldn't fall back asleep. I eventually took an alarm clock into his room and had him wait until 6:00 to go downstairs.
The big hit was the mighty beans the Easter Bunny left. The excitement didn't last long once they figured out they weren't as cool as the commercial.
We went to the egg hunt at Grandma Kay's house. The boys always ask about the events we get to do with her. My mom and Uncle Tom braved the cold to watch them hunt (well, pick up eggs off the ground with tons of other little kids).
We also went to the JDRF breakfast at the Grand America hotel. We had a nice breakfast and went on a treasure hunt on the main floor of the hotel. Then the boys made pretend sushi out of rice crispy treats, peanut butter and raisins.

Grizzlies Hockey Game
Friday night we went to the hockey game at the E Center. One of Chad's friends from the dog training/duck hunting days has season tickets and he had some extras, so we got to go. The boys really loved it. I definitely think we'll go to another game next year. It was also a JDRF night and Grammy and Melanie were there as well. We could see them across the arena from us.
Tyson loved cheering when a goal was scored. He would jump and yell.
After the game we got to go down on the ice and meet some of the players. They got to meet Grizzby and have their sweatshirts signed. Tyson was disappointed that he didn't get to skate, but he liked being down on the ice. It's always cool to see things from a different perspective.

Tyson's Spring Program
Last night was Tyson's first grade spring singing program. All the kids wore matching 100 book club t-shirts they earned by reading. Tyson worked really hard to earn his. He even stayed up late one night and read thirty books using his neck flashlight. He is a definitely a night owl.
There is a reason Ty is only wearing one shoe in this picture. The program didn't go smoothly for him. A few songs into the program I noticed Ty was acting a little strange. He kept bending over, looking around distressed and wiping his eyes with his shirt. I mentioned to Chad that I thought something was wrong. I had the normal thoughts - is he sick - did he wet his pants? I also had the diabetic mom thoughts - is he too high - too low - is he about to collapse? My biggest fear for him is having some kind of diabetic episode that makes the other kids hesitant around him (so far we haven't). I realized that I hadn't given him his insulin for his dinner, he had been really low before he started eating so I was waiting for him to get his sugar levels up before I gave him any insulin. His pump is awesome, I gave him the insulin from my seat. By this time Chad was at the front on the side trying to get his attention. When he started crying I walked up the center aisle and kneeled down next to his teacher. You could tell he was distressed, but he didn't want to get in trouble by coming down. I had his teacher motion for him to come down and he finally did. We took him out into the hall and he burst into tears and said he had lost his shoe. It was quite traumatic for him, but I was relieved. We tested his blood just in case. He was high, which makes him more emotional. We spent the rest of the program in the hall, he was too embarrassed to go back up. When it was over he met up with class and walked back to his room to get a sucker. We found the shoe on the stage and everything turned out OK.
